The Lion: A talk with world’s leading lion expert Craig Packer

FreeLions loom large in the collective imagination as a subject of fascination and fear. Expert on African lions Craig Packer has spent more than four decades studying the large cats. In The Lion: Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation of an Iconic Species, he offers a vivid snapshot of the lives of these remarkable animals, touching on scientific questions about lion behavior, human-lion interaction, and conservation challenges. Dr. Packer will share his insights from years observing lions in the field along with his thoughts on how to ensure that they survive and thrive in the future.
Doors open at 6pm and include an opportunity to visit Life on the Edge, an exhibition about the discovery of new environments on Earth and in space. The talk will begin at 7pm, and will be followed by Q&A and book signing.
The Lion will be available for purchase on site before and after the talk.

About the speaker
Craig Packer is Distinguished McKnight University Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior and director of the University of Minnesota Lion Center. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is the award-winning author of Into Africa and Lions in the Balance: Man-Eaters, Manes, and Men with Guns.
