Petri Dish – Signal and noise: Nature’s underground networks and what they reveal
Wednesday | October 11, 2023 | 6:00 pm–8:30 pm
$5Recommended for an adult audience
Some scientists who study the symbiotic relationship between plant roots and fungi argue that these sometimes vast underground networks facilitate a form of communication. The idea has gained traction in the popular imagination. Our panel will explore what nature’s underground networks can tell us about the current and future state of the environment, what we know – and what we don’t – about how trees and plants signal changes in their environment, and what it all means for our relationship to the natural world.
Panelists Include:
Peter Kennedy, Professor, College of Biological Sciences
Mae Davenport, Professor, Director-Center for Changing Landscapes
Bruce Braun, Professor, Geography, Environment & Society
Registration is requested through Eventbrite. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Program starts at 6:15 p.m.
