Event Navigation
Discover the world of sound waves with University of Minnesota researchers and alumni! Watch as your voice is translated into digital sound as you send an audio postcard, test your own abilities as you learn how scientists study human hearing, and experiment with audio engineers during hourly live music performances. Explore the science of sound with even more exciting activities and demonstrations around the museum:
- Record and send your own audio postcard with the broadcasters at Radio K, the University of Minnesota‘s local student-run radio station
- Play instruments and learn how music can heal with the University of Minnesota Music Therapy Student Association
- Sample sounds from an audio tasting menu to discover how our brains can process complex information like speech and music
- Journey through the history of sound recording and broadcasting with real artifacts from the Pavek Museum
- Listen to music through the ears of other animals as you investigate communication across the animal kingdom with biologists from St. Olaf College
- Test your audio skills with facial mapping technology used by the University of Minnesota scientists who study hearing and balance
- Explore the connection between art and science at hourly live music performances, where you can test sound effects with Chase Bliss musicians and engineers
