Water surrounded by sand

Minnesota Water Stories

New Planetarium Program and Online StoryMap Collection

Minnesota has unbreakable ties to water all across the state. From the pristine waters of Lake Superior to the mighty Mississippi River, regional and global challenges threaten our precious water resources. Hear stories from researchers and citizens from Minnesota’s three largest water basins as they explore water challenges, current research, and opportunities to help improve and protect one of Minnesota’s greatest natural resources.

Minnesota Water Stories was developed as a program for the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Planetarium at the Bell Museum and other planetariums around the state. Since COVID-19, this project has evolved and now offers the combined experiences of the immersive planetarium show and an online portal. Audiences can go further and learn more about how personal and public water choices have impacts far beyond the state’s borders. Understanding these impacts from a local to global perspective is necessary in order to address Minnesota’s water challenges of the present and future.

Minnesota Water Stories opens in the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Planetarium on June 11.
