Summer with Science & Nature Activity Kits 2021

The Bell Museum creates Science & Nature Activity Kits to share with community partners

The Bell continues to be a museum without boundaries by reaching several communities across the Twin Cities through the development and delivery of hands-on, Science & Nature Activity Kits for students and families. These kits have been carefully crafted and curated by Bell Museum educators to provide students and their families with enriching science and nature experiences at home during the summer.

Our Bell Museum team spent several months developing and testing each activity to ensure each budding scientist received a selection of fun activities while learning more about the world we live in. After the activities were finalized, the team worked to source all the supplies necessary—including magnifying glasses, school supplies, and measuring tape—for exploration this summer.

Each kit includes five science and nature activities that engage, challenge, and spark wonder in curious young minds to explore the world around them. With activities including building a rain gauge, barometer and wind vane for creating your own weather station, getting up close through outdoor observation in your neighborhood, and assembling a device to help track the phases of the moon, there is something in each kit for every young scientist to enjoy!

The activities in each kit are accompanied by a special booklet with step-by-step, illustrated instructions that offer opportunities for hands-on learning all summer long. All instruction materials are translated in Spanish.

Thank you to our donors and sponsors for making the creation and distribution of our Science & Nature Activity Kits possible. Because of their generosity, this year the Bell Museum was able to ignite curiosity and wonder for 7,000 children! The Bell is providing the kits at no charge for more than 25 community, education and social service partners to distribute to children and families including:

  • Hmong American Partnership (HAP)
  • Imhotep Freedom School – Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota
  • Roseville Area Schools
  • YWCA Minneapolis
  • Northside Achievement Zone
  • Excell Academy for Higher Learning
  • Urban Ventures
  • And more!

We are excited to inspire discovery and spark curiosity this summer. Thank you again to our generous sponsors for making it all possible.
