So what is a natural history museum?
Natural history museums are devoted to understanding the natural world and our place in it. They contain historical records of animals, plants, and ecosystems—just to name a few! The Bell Museum specifically focuses on the changing landscapes of Minnesota and the organisms that inhabit them.
Ok, and what about a planetarium?
Planetariums are immersive theaters where you can learn about astronomy and the night sky, often with the help of an expert guide. Astronomy is a central part of our museum because learning about where everything started is an important part of learning about where we are now!
We will never turn anyone away based on their ability to pay!
Through a program called Museums for All, we offer free gallery admission and discounted planetarium tickets to qualifying individuals. Additionally, we waive general museum admission for all Indigenous peoples.
The Bell Museum strives to make its spaces accessible to all.
We work to bring science and nature to everyone—that’s why we offer a number of accessibility resources to help create an inclusive environment. Some of our resources include audio tours, sensory-friendly resources, a quiet room, wheelchairs, and more.
We offer a free audio guide to visitors available in English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and English with audio description.
Sensory Friendly Saturdays provide a welcoming and accessible environment for individuals who have sensory sensitivities.
