Our Expanding Universe

On view June 17, 2025 through June 2026

This show is live! Recommended for ages 10 & older

Join us for an incredible journey across the universe, from the explosive birth of the cosmos to today’s cutting-edge research happening right here in Minnesota. Explore the origins of the Big Bang and trace the growth of the universe from the first atoms to galactic superclusters to explosive supernovas.

Beginning with the birth of the cosmos, we quickly explore the formation of the first particles and atoms (hydrogen, helium, and lithium).  We dive into the expansion of the universe, tracing the steps of early astronomers like Henrietta Swan Leavitt and Edwin Hubble, linking their work to contemporary efforts at the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics that seek to determine the true value of the Hubble Constant.

Along the way, learn how scientists at the Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics are pushing the boundaries of our understanding as they tackle one of astronomy’s biggest mysteries: how fast is the universe expanding? Come feel the wonder of discovery as we unravel the mysteries of cosmic expansion and inspire you to see the cosmos with fresh eyes and renewed curiosity.

I’m most excited for audiences to learn more about the work I do and to be able to share that work with the wider public… I would describe the program as ‘The story of our Universe’.
