Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities throughout the Bell!

As Minnesota’s state natural history museum, the Bell ignites and sustains curiosity for nature and the universe. We envision a hopeful future where all are inspired by nature and empowered by science.

Spark curiosity and wonder by volunteering at the Bell Museum! Volunteering is a great way to interact with museum visitors and share an appreciation for science, nature, and space. There is always something new to learn at the Bell!

The Bell volunteer program provides support at both special events and ongoing programming. Curious to know where you can lend a hand? Check out our Volunteer FAQ page for current openings. We are accepting volunteer applications as we can from 12/10/25–1/3/26. Due to capacity, processing times may vary.

Please note: Our small volunteer services team strives to find the best fit for each applicant and each program we support. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement in our volunteer program. If you are a current student at the University of Minnesota, you are not eligible to volunteer at the Bell. Instead, please check out our current student employment opportunities.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe it is essential to create an environment that welcomes and empowers people from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities to have equitable access to the museum’s resources as well as opportunities to transform our work.  We are committed to upholding the diversity, equity, and inclusion definitions and values set forth by the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the University of Minnesota.

These values will be integrated in all aspects of the museum, including:

  • Hiring, recruitment, retention, and advancement of staff and volunteers
  • Selection and evaluation of program and exhibition content
  • Providing meaningful opportunities to participate in planning and leadership
