Volunteer Opportunities

Have an interest in plants and museums? The Herbarium always has need of volunteers to help with plant specimen preparation. We have a significant backlog of material that needs to be processed before being formally added to the collection. If you have spare time between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, we would love to have you join us.

Contact one of the curators:
Dr. Anita Cholewa, Curator of the Herbarium and Collections Manager, (612) 625-0215; chole001@umn.edu
Dr. George Weiblen, Curator of Plants, (612) 624-3461; gweiblen@umn.edu

Interested in volunteering in the exhibit galleries or other programs of the Museum?

As we move towards opening the new Bell Museum and Planetarium to the public in the summer of 2018, we are happy to know that people like yourself want to be involved in telling our story. With the closing of the Minneapolis location on December 31, 2016, we have put our regular volunteer program on hold as staff focuses on transitioning into the new space.

Ahead of opening in 2018, we will begin coordinating volunteer activities and re-engaging with our volunteers. We are honored so many people are excited to be part of the Bell. If you would like to be contacted in early 2018 , please take a moment to complete the following form. In doing so, you will be the first to hear of volunteer opportunities in the new building.
