Online Fungal Database

View the collection online at MycoPortal.

The fungal database contains the specimen information for the fungal collections accessioned in the University Herbarium (MIN). All information in the database is available under a Creative Commons Attribution – Noncommercial – Share Alike 3.0 license with acknowledgement of the Bell Museum of Natural History. Use of the information requires proper acknowledgement in any presentation, report, publication, training manual, or any other written or digital output.

Detailed information, such as locality data and taxonomic notes, is also available through the database in a sortable format.  As some of this information is sensitive, special permission is required for access. Please contact the curator for more information; permission is renewed annually.

Funding for modernization of the Minnesota fungal collections and initial development of the web site was provided by the Minnesota Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative Committee on Minnesota Resources (1999-2001).

The names for fungi in the database may be current or earlier names. Earlier names are used when a specimen has not been verified by an expert.  Special Users have access to a taxonomic note field, which suggests the current name for the collection. Specimens must be examined, however, to be certain of the identification.

Searching by Host

To find a fungus associated with a particular plant or other host, search using the scientific or common name of the host in the habitat field as well as with the scientific name in the host field.
