Minnesota’s official natural history museum has been preserving and celebrating the state since 1872. Now located on the University’s St. Paul campus, our new home brings together science, art, and the environment with a unique Minnesota perspective.
Our new facility was designed with school groups in mind: the dedicated Richard M. Schulze Education Entrance, four full-size classroom/lab spaces, a state-of-the-art planetarium, world renowned wildlife dioramas, and more immersive experiences facilitate a seamless and rich visit every time.
Partner with our education team to provide standards-focused, collaborative learning experiences for your students as we connect students with leading scientific research taking place right here at the University. Keep student curiosity alive after your visit by utilizing our post-visit activities provided to support every experience.
These PreK-12 group experience options below can be arranged individually or in combination with each other. Pricing starts with the first experience at $6/student. Additional experiences can be added at $3/student.

We are pleased to offer scholarship options for qualifying schools. Offers are valid September 4, 2018 – June 7, 2019 (or until funds run out).
Field Trip Scholarships
Maximum of 210 students
One visit per school in the scholarship period
- 75% and higher FRL (free and reduced lunch): $6 off per student for visit
- 50-74% FRL: $3 off per student for visit
Maximum of two buses per school in the scholarship period
50% FRL and higher:
- Minneapolis Public Schools & St Paul Public Schools: 100% cost
- Seven County Metro (Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, & Washington): Up to $180 per bus
- Outside Seven County Metro: Up to $450 per bus

Booking and Payment
School trips must be booked at least three weeks in advance. The minimum size for discounted educational group rates is 15 people. Reservations must be paid prior to, or upon arrival to the museum. Payment should be in the form of a single check or credit card payment.
There is a one-time option to reschedule, dependent on availability. Groups that cancel visits less than three weeks before their visit will be billed at the following rates: 50% of the total cost for less than 2-3 weeks notice; 100% of the total cost for less than one weeks notice.
In the case of school closures, we will work with groups to reschedule their visit for a later date. Please contact us as soon as possible once you know your school will be closed.
Limited space is available for groups at no additional cost. Lunch spaces must be reserved at time of booking.
Special Group Entrance
Buses are welcome to use the dedicated Schultz Education Entrance located on the east side of the building on Cleveland Avenue. The Roger E. Anderson Education Wing is just inside the doors, where your students will start their experience after a brief orientation from our staff.
