Join us at Ramsey County Library in Roseville for a new book club focusing on nonfiction books about science and featuring guest facilitators from the Bell. Our next session is presented in association with the exhibition Audubon Animated, on view January 25–May 31. We’ll read and discuss The Feather Thief, by Kirk Wallace Johnson, with facilitators from Ramsey County Library, joined by Holly Menninger, director of public engagement and science learning, and Sushma Reddy, curator of birds, Breckenridge chair of ornithology, and associate professor in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology.
The Feather Thief is a wide-ranging true crime story following the theft of rare bird specimens from the British Museum of Natural History. The story moves from A. R. Wallace’s 1848 expedition to South America and the Victorian era craze for feathered women’s hats, to a present day network of fishing fly makers and feather suppliers. If you wonder why museum collections matter, or if you liked The River of Doubt, Into the Wild, or The Orchid Thief, this book may be for you.
Join us for a spirited and informative book club that focuses on the science in the story. See the library’s event listing here.
