Sitting Among the Stars

Saturday | October 20, 2018 | 11:00 am11:30 am

Inspired by conversations with the U of M researchers and DNR staff, Sitting Among the Stars will take you deep into the wilderness of our collective backyard to honor two of our most iconic species—the moose and the little brown bat.

Learn about these incredible animals and the challenges they currently face. Watch as illuminated creatures come to life through a shadow puppet performance that explores climate change, habitat loss, environmental shifts, and alien invaders. What is wild? How is our Minnesota landscape shifting? How can we be present with all this change and loss? How can we wake to the shared needs of this ecosystem?

Art at the Bell

Our Resident Artist Research Project offers artists an exclusive opportunity to engage with the museum’s scientific collections as well as University researchers while exploring art as a medium for interpreting science in the public realm. Residencies are 12-15 weeks long, during which time artists develop new work inspired by or in response to science research, collections and ways of knowing.

This program is made possible thanks to generous support provided by the McKnight Foundation.
