Petri Dish: Romaine Recalls & Raw Milk Renegades

Wednesday | November 14, 2018 | 7:00 pm9:00 pm

$8 – $10

Frequent outbreaks of Salmonella, E. coli and other causes of foodborne illness remind us that the journey from field to fork can be fraught with peril. Finding the cause of outbreaks can take weeks or months leaving many wondering how we assess and address threats to food safety and whether there’s a better way. At the other end of the spectrum, true believers insist on the wholesomeness of raw milk despite the risks.

Join us this fall for a special Petri Dish series, exploring topics relating to food in conjunction with the museum’s Our Global Kitchen exhibit. Our expert panel will discuss what safeguards are in place, what foods pose the greatest risks to human health and why, and what we can do to improve the safety scorecard.

Michael Osterholm, Environmental Health Sciences & Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy

Dana Davis, Microbiology & Immunology

Joellen Freirtag, Food Science and Nutrition
