Drawing and Painting Dinosaurs with Emily Willoughby

Tuesday | September 20, 2022 | 7:00 pm8:00 pm

Recommended for ages 12+

Emily Willoughby draws dinosaurs! She is a paleoartist whose illustrations have appeared in Nature, Science, Wired, and more. She worked with Bell Museum curators to depict some of the dinosaurs and early birds who lived in the Jehol Biota of China about 126 million years ago. We are thrilled to have her work on display in our exhibition Seeing Birds (on view through October 2).

Join us for a program based on Emily’s new book, Drawing and Painting Dinosaurs. Emily will explain why and how she paints dinosaurs, and why you should too! She’ll also tell us about how she works with paleontologists to illustrate their latest scientific findings and new fossil discoveries, what sources she uses, and how art can inform scientific inquiry. You’ll also be able to sketch your own Deinonychus as Emily walks you step by step through a drawing exercise from her book.
