Courageous Leadership: A conversation with Dr. Terry Root
Monday | April 19, 2021 | 4:30 pm–5:30 pmFree
Science leadership is not only about new discoveries. It’s also about developing new approaches to research and teaching, communicating scientific insights, and cultivating the next generation of science leaders. It’s a role that demands much more than dedication and hard work — you also need a lot of courage. Just ask Dr. Terry L. Root, senior fellow emerita at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, who has played a key role in climate science research and advocacy, specifically as it relates to the mass extinction of plants and wildlife, and has inspired countless others along the way.
In celebration of Earth Day 2021, join Dr. Jessica Hellmann, director of the Institute on the Environment, in a conversation with her mentor, Dr. Root, on her experiences at the forefront of climate science research and advocacy, what it means to be a woman leader in the sciences, and so much more. We’ll also explore additional questions, such as:
- What is the future of climate science?
- What leadership is needed to help people and planet thrive together?
This free, virtual event is in partnership with the Institute on the Environment.
