Spend some time with astronomer from the past Caroline Hershel! Caroline was the first woman to discover a celestial object, and the first woman to earn a salary as a scientist. Best known for her work as a duo with her brother William, she developed techniques to track and catalogue the night sky using emerging telescope technology and discovered numerous comets, nebulae, and a brand new planet!
Gather your family around the computer to experience an optical demonstration, learn about light pollution, and even ask Caroline Herschel your own questions.
Presenter
Sadie Bowman is cofounder, co-artistic director, managing director, and touring performer with Matheatre. Besides her years of educational theater experience with Matheatre, Sadie has previously served as education manager at Know Theatre of Cincinnati and a coordinator and performer for Thinking People’s Theatre of Portland, Oregon. She has been part of sketch and musical comedy groups in various cities and served as a creative contributor for educational software company ScienceVR. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre arts from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
