After Hours: Earth
Wednesday | April 15, 2020 | 5:00 pm–8:30 pm
Activities free with gallery admission.
Enjoy an evening at the museum! Curate your night from a host of activities, including sketching in the galleries, art-making activities, a show in the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Planetarium, and stargazing on the Ruth and John Huss Observation Deck (weather permitting).
Sketching theme: Diorama sketching challenge! Here’s a chance to travel on a sketching journey of our famous dioramas. Choose a secret prompt and see where it takes you: Maybe you will need to draw three plants or a place with water. Stools will be provided for the diorama halls. Also enjoy a special appearance by some of our vintage mini dioramas, some of which started traveling the state in the 1920s.
Bird Diorama Tour
Dive deep into the dioramas with Sushma Reddy, curator of our bird collection. Learn more about birds, their amazing adaptations, marvelous migration and mating behavior, and the roles they play in Minnesota’s ecosystems.
6 pm: Habitat Earth
7 pm: Minnesota Night Skies (captioned)
