Solar Sunday

Sunday | August 18, 2019 | 12:00 pm2:00 pm

Ruth and John Huss Observation Deck, Bell Museum

Free with gallery admission

Telescopes aren’t just for night observing. Bell astronomy staff will have a variety of our solar telescopes out on our observation deck for safe solar viewing. Note: These events are weather dependent (we need clear skies for observing the Sun); if the weather does not allow for solar viewing, events will be canceled.

Linda and Roger KennedyOn August 18, Roger and Linda Kennedy from Timmy Telescope Solar Astronomy Outreach will join us. Roger is the director of the Timmy Telescope in New Mexico, and his 55-year scientific career has involved remote sensing activities with the Navy in the later stages of the Corona Project, academic work at the high school and college level, public interpretation of data from NASA’s Mar Exploration Rover Mission and the Solar Dynamic Observatory. Linda is the website and infographic designer, as well as solar educator, for Timmy Telescope. She has spent nearly 50 years in public and governmental information science service including the development and implementation of library based Leap into Science programs and the archiving of research documents for the Waste Isolation Pilot Project/Environmental Evaluation Group.
