Ready, Set, Lift Off

Visitors enjoy a planetarium show

Take a journey into outer space to explore the Sun, visit each unique planet, and zoom past millions of asteroids, comets, and meteoroids in the Whitney and Elizabeth MacMillan Planetarium. See how astronauts live and work aboard the International Space Station. We may even bring out our sun telescope and try to spot solar flares or sunspots. This week will be full of astronomy and space exploration!

Incredible Invertebrates

Get up close and personal with honey bees, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, worms, butterflies, hermit crabs and other interesting invertebrates as we learn about their amazing adaptations, their different habitats and the important role they play in the natural world. You will use a variety of field methods to study local insect biodiversity using pitfall traps, sweep nets and pond dipping.

Water Ways

It’s hard to think about Minnesota without thinking about water. Dive into the scientific studies of chemistry, biology, and physics to conduct experiments and learn more about the state’s most important natural resource. Learn how native plants and animals use water for more than just drinking and how we can too.

Art (X) Science

Come with us as we go full STEAM ahead to explore how math and science concepts are used in art. Tap into your creativity through projects like geometric quilting, oil and salt paintings, growing colorful crystals, and creating sculptures that jump and move. Work with a visiting artist and bring home your own masterpieces.
