City Nature Challenge 2020
Community science is right at your fingertips
Published04/23/2020
Since 2016, The City Nature Challenge has become an international effort for people to engage with nature and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, City Nature Challenge 2020 will not be a challenge to get the most entries or number of species. Instead, it will be a fun way to engage with and get to know the world around you while documenting as much wildlife as you can, contributing to a global, crowd-sourcing community science effort!
From April 24–27, you can join the fun from outside or even within your home. Participating is as easy as 1-2-3!
- Find wild plants and wildlife (or even just evidence they’ve been there, like scat!)
- Take a picture of what you find
- Share your observation through the @inaturalistapp via your desktop computer or mobile device!
From April 28–May 3, teams will begin identifying what everyone found and this year’s results will be announced on May 4th!
Follow along on social media using #citynaturechallenge and check out the Minnesota Master Naturalists Facebook page for some in-depth how-tos on using iNaturalist and capturing photos for the City Nature Challenge.
Most importantly, have fun, enjoy the benefits of engaging with nature, and stay safe. We can’t wait to see the #natureneighbors you find in your backyards and neighborhoods as you #natureinplace with us!
