Planetarium Programs & Tickets

 Explore the universe

See real, dynamic Earth and space data comes to life! A planetarium program in the ExploraDome Theater is a wonderful addition to a day visiting Minnesota's natural history museum, for schools seeking a unique field trip experience or even private events looking for special programming.

The ExploraDome Experience

Through guided inquiry led by our staff, the audience embarks on a virtual voyage from the surface of the Earth all the way to the edge of the known universe. Viewing a program in the ExploraDome Theater is a truly unique experience—it has even been described as being surrounded by a "wall of cool." It is an intimate environment, holding up to 15 people. ExploraDome seating is on the carpeted floor—when you enter, you'll be invited to lay on your back, creating a fully immersive experience. For those that are unable or uncomfortable lying down, chairs are available to sit in the back of the ExploraDome's Theater, still ensuring a view of the presentation. All presentations are given live by a planetarium educator and allow for audience interaction, unless noted as "pre-recorded."

Earth: An Oasis in the Dark

Explore Earth, our only home, and took a look at some of the most striking features as seen from space. Travel through time and watch as our city lights begin to dominate the night sky. Examine a divided Berlin, a unified Europe, and get close up looks at meteor impact craters around the world. View the substructure of our planet, and witness natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, and even solar flares. Contemplate our place by observing the effects of human habitation. Ride along with the astronauts aboard the ISS, take a journey to the moon, and discover thousands of worlds just beyond our grasp. Appropriate for all ages.

From Earth to the Universe & Explore the Night

In this fulldome movie produced by the European Southern Observatory, head to the farthest reaches of space through the eyes of the giant telescopes that help us see beyond our sky. A short star talk follows the movie-- explore phases of the moon, which planets are visible, and what constellations to look for after dark in our sky tonight.

Zoom! From Earth to the Edge of the Universe

The audience decides where to go in this show, from Earth to the edge of the observable universe and anywhere in between. The journey will help learners appreciate the scale of the solar system, galaxy, and universe; the vast distance separating celestial objects; and how these object change over time. Recommended for all ages.
